A figure stands with a staff of gold. Holding a lamp that is lit you will see it is actually a star he holds inside the lamp. The light is being held by him in front of where he travels. His staff is ready and the landscape looks barren but peaceful. It could be mistaken for snow capped hills in the distance. He bows his head for the journey ahead knowing he is entering a space of deep winter in the landscape but the light he is holding has the same light as the staff he leans on and whether he is aware of it or not his path will be illuminated by his own star energy. There is nowhere he cannot travel whether physically or spiritually.

What does this mean for us. Interestingly the Hermit also represents the sign of Virgo and the Moon is in Virgo today. Ruled by Mercury, Virgo has a secret communication with the stars and likes to retreat into a quiet space of reflection. Secrets are something Virgos like to harvest..to have a secret world that may be very different to their identity they show. This can be a positive or a not so positive!! As we retreat into shorter days we find we yearn for moments of stillness and peace and cozy ness. But something in us calls to look at a deeper stirring happening in the soul. Mercury also in Scorpio wants direct communication and fire to light Up conversation perhaps. Passion is revealed in words and in actions. But Mercury also in Venus (Virgo) is the divine feminine spirit calling us to move into the safe harbour of our own space. Find that cave. Find that place where you can retreat and listen to Her. She is calling now.

The hermit card is sometimes considered to be a slightly wiser version of the Magician card in the Tarot. He/She has had lots of lessons and learned much about the path but there is not a need to convince anyone of their knowledge the Hermit knows the one he teaches is himself.

The clarity will come. It is not for us to say when or where but to know it will just as illuminating moments have come to our own awareness during our lives. We could not have predicted it and in fact it is not when we are searching they happen it is always when we have surrendered to just being us!

A spiritual growing happens with this image. A deepening of our own eternal landscape as we retreat into days of simplicity and wonder. Avoiding the masses doesn’t mean not caring it means you know the value of stepping into a space where you can best help others by firstly caring for your needs. Every traveller must stop at some point and look on where he has travelled to prepare for the next journey. The card is number 9 in the tarot and that represents beginnings and endings and marks the crossroads of a well travelled journey.

Light a fire and stare into the flames. Scry with the flickering golden flames just as our ancestors did and see the beauty ahead. Think of those who once stared into those flames sitting beside the fire and hoping for the best and thank them for their journey they are only a thought away.

Your star lights the way and is never diminished!
